Welding Engineer (Head of the welding Department)

 

Location: England and China

 

Salary: Excellent pay rates plus benefits package, including free accommodation, insurance, flight and visa reimbursement

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Welding Engineer (Head of Welding Department) to work with our team of engineers to ensure that our manufacturing processes and equipment reliably deliver products of the highest quality, at the right cost, and on time to ensure our customer needs are met. The Head of the welding department will also be responsible for ensure compliance to code as well as developing our welding techniques, processes and designs for the next generation of products.

 

 

Job Objective

 

Technical and operational performance of Welding Department, equipment and

processes (short and long term).

Fit for purpose quality and quantity of Welding Department personnel.

Your mission and responsibilities:

Tasks

Liaises with

• Production Manager, production coordinators, supervisors, and foremen

• Project Management

• Mechanical Engineering (ME), Work Preparation (WP)

• QESH, QC, HCN Laboratory

• Clients, Third Parties / Certifying Authority for project issues, PQR and WPS

 

Tasks

Mission, vision and strategy

• Up to date and implemented mission, vision and strategy

Safety

• Department safety performance,

• Department support for implementation of safety programs

• Safe fabrication / construction, installation activities

Tender process

• Timely, complete, fit for purpose and reliable fabrication / construction advice, budget and welding rate estimates, fabrication sequences and control to client tenders Project preparation, execution process

 

• Timely, complete, fit for purpose and reliable fabrication advice, welding rate estimates, fabrication sequences and control to client projects

• Welding equipment related proposals of "make/buy/rent/modify" solutions

• Verification and approval of Welding Department related suppliers and subcontractors

• Effective, cost efficient and safe fulfilment of requirements for fabrication, installation activities

• Up to date and on time in full prepared Welding Procedure Qualification Test schedules

• Timely and complete required documentation (e.g. WPQT matrix, PQR’s, WPS’s and repair rates

• Preparation and provision of operational instructions and training of fabrication personnel,

including subcontractors

• High level Welding analysis, consultancy and evaluation

• Conduct failure analyses of failed welds, investigate and evaluate welding defects to determine

appropriate root cause(s) and corrective action(s)

 

Project execution process, supply chain

• Verification of committed welding related invoices

• Preparation and/or approval of welding related requisitions and specifications

• Performance evaluation of welding related subcontractors, vendors and agents

Know how

• Continuous development of production know how, requirements and improvement of awareness

across production and internal HCN organization

• Continuous improvement of production welding best practices, and availability to HCN

• Verification of correct operation of welding personnel related to welding equipment

• Effective Welding Department interface between production and other HCN departments

• Maintenance and increasing Welding Department knowledge, on a regular basis by means of

memberships, courses and technical committee attendance

• Maintenance and evaluation of performance records of welding equipment

• Adequate filing, archiving and document control

• Identification, definition and execution of welding development and innovation projects

Responsibilities

• Qualitative, efficient and effective delivery of Welding Department deliverables (incl.

subcontractors)

• Optimizing added value through application of right Welding technology

• Right person on the right job at the right time for Production

• Availability, maintenance and implementation of a succession plan for all Welding Department

personnel

• HCN representation in all production welding matters towards clients, authorities and external

parties

• Contribute to a co-operative and innovative working environment within the company

General requirements

• Contribute to a safe and cooperative working environment within the company

Requirements

• Education: Education: College or above, Bachelor degree is preferred. International Welding

Engineer (IWE).

• Experience: Min 15 years of working experience in offshore construction and 5 years in similar

function.

• Language: Able to communicate fluently (oral and in writing) in in English and preferable in

Mandarin.

• Computer: Top master skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint (version

2010).

• Certificate: Qualification according to company policy.

• Others: Reliable, stress resistant, good appearance, independent, loyal, creative, discreet,

strong welding technical knowledge and business vocabulary, friendly.
